Iran: Hackers show dissident images on state television, call for Khamenei's death


Now several Iranian state television channels were hacked on Thursday with viewers shown a crossed-out image of the country's supreme leader Ali Khamenei alongside a death warning for Khamenei. Now according to Tehran authorities, hackers have gained access to several state television channels to display pictures of an exiled descent group the people's mujahideen organization of Iran. 

Now for several seconds graphics flashed on-screen interrupting the regular broadcast the clip also showed the images of the group leader Massoud Rajavi and his wife Maryam Rajavi. The descended dissident group presents itself as an alternative to Iran's theocracy and aims to topple the ruling government. Now the attack comes just weeks before the 43rd anniversary of the Islamic revolution that ousted the u.s backed Mohammad Reza Pahlavi from power. 

A hacking attack that lasted for nearly 10 seconds is currently under investigation. The attack represents a major loophole in Iranian state television long believed to be controlled by members of the Islamic republic's intelligence branches. Now Thursday's hacking incident marks the latest in a series of embarrassing cyber attacks against Iran. In October last year, a similar cyber intrusion took place on Iran's fuel distribution system paralyzing gas stations nationwide other attacks that Iran has blamed on Israel have been directed at its nuclear program.
