Currently, many people who have taken the 2 doses of the COVID vaccine are getting infected with Omicron. This is why Pfizer Inc and BioNTech have started a clinical trial to test a new vaccine designed to offer protection against the Omicron variant. About 1400 people will be enrolled in the trial. All of them are from the USA. In these 1400 people, those who have gotten the 2 COVID vaccine doses, will be given the Omicron vaccine as a booster dose.
Those who have not taken any vaccine will be given the Omicron vaccine in 3 doses after specific intervals. Those who have taken the recently approved 3rd dose of the covid vaccine will be given the Omicron vaccine as the 4th dose. The trials will check if the body can be protected from Omicron, the fatality & immune response. According to the companies, the Omicron vaccine should be ready in March.
Once the trial results emerged positive they will sell them to various countries. Head of Indian Council of Medical Research’s Epidemiological Department Samiran Panda has said “If we all continue to follow rules like wear mask, sanitize and practice social distancing, then Covid may become endemic by 11 March. Similar to how cold & flu can not be eliminated, even COVID will be the same.
